Accademia Kronos o.n.l.u.s. (non-profit organization)  is an association which has since 1997 resumed the activities of one of the oldest environmentalist movements in Europe: “Kronos 1991” (born in Turin in 1969 and dispersed in Rome in 1994).
In the fall of 1997, the founders of the “old” Kronos made a decision not to waste the many years of experiences and battles for the defence of the environment and of the quality of life, and to restart activities for the benefit of future generations.
So they created the “new” Accademia Kronos.
Today Accademia Kronos  has a membership of nearly 10,000, 40 local offices and contact-persons all over Italy. It has also set up a number of international branches.

Since 1998 Accademia Kronos has aimed to develop professional skills for the protection of the environment, and has established agreements and collaborations with scientific institutions and universities. Examples are the university degree  for “Educatore e Divulgatore Ambientale” (“Environmental Education”, 3+2 yrs.) and the two master courses in “Salute e Ambiente” (“Health and The Environment”).

The association has already achieved several important goals at national and international level. Between 1999 and 2004 Accademia Kronos, with the collaboration of the “Corpo Forestale dello Stato” (National Forest Rangers), carried out a huge campaign known as “Bosco Italia”, aimed to awaken public opinion to environmental issues. The initiative was acknowledged by the former President of the Italian Republic Carlo Azelio Ciampi.
From 2005 this campaign changed its name into “Un Bosco per Kyoto” (“A Wood for Kyoto”).

As a matter of fact, since 1998 Accademia Kronos has made a major contribution to the scientific developments envisaged by the Kyoto Protocol. In this field, the association has implemented scientific devices to monitor green-house effect gases in the atmosphere. For three years in a row, during the autumn months, the Association has visited several Italian harbours on a ship of the Lauro company, to talk to the local people and discuss environmental concerns.

Moreover, Accademia Kronos has activated special training courses on Global Change; in collaboration with RAI (state-owned Italian television network) it has produced and broadcast TV dossiers on climate changes; it has developed educational documentaries for middle and high school students; it has organized scientific expeditions to the Amazonian rainforests and to Patagonia, and it is now planning further expeditions to Africa and South America (all the relevant information is available in the website www.accademiakronos.it , with photos and videos on the “multimedia” link).

Accademia Kronos has also created an archaeological studies section, with special interest on peoples’ historical migrations, on the birth and death of great ancient civilizations connected to climatic changes and past environmental crises. Thanks to this section, the association has carried out research studies in Peru, Bolivia, Easter Island, Anatolia and Egypt.

Accademia Kronos is part of a worldwide organization which promotes “responsible tourism”. Every year it organizes naturalistic activities for its members and for primary and secondary schools interested in wildlife and environmental preservation.

Accademia Kronos  is committed to the mission of being a careful monitor of the environment. It's always ready to take front line action wherever environment integrity and people’s health are in danger.
Accademia Kronos  aims to turn its members from passive spectators into active defenders of the environment. Those who join the association are never left alone to face commitments and actions for the protection of the environment.

In the website  www.accademiakronos.it  you will find all the information about how to take part in the life and activities of the Association.
